How to Add Publications for Download on Your WP Blog: 19 Steps

STEPS

FIRST IT IS NECESSARY TO GET THE WORDPRESS PUBLICATION ARCHIVE PLUG IN ON YOUR BLOG. Go to plug ins and click install new. Search WP publication archive and install it to your WP blog.

AFTER YOU INSTALL AND ACTIVATE THE PLUG IN YOU WILL WANT TO ADD A PUBLICATION. On your side dash board in your back office you will find a new heading that says Publications click on that and once that page opens up click on add new.

YOU WILL SEE A NORMAL ARTICLE START PAGE, SCROLL DOWN THE PAGE ABOUT HALF WAY AND YOU WILL FIND A BUTTON THAT SAYS UPLOAD PUBLICATION.

THIS WILL OPEN UP A FRAME THAT HAS THE SELECT FILES FROM YOUR COMPUTER, OR A DRAG AND DROP FILES HERE SECTION. Click on select files.

FIND THE FILE ON YOUR COMPUTER AND CLICK OPEN, THIS WILL UPLOAD IT TO YOUR PUBLICATION ARCHIVE BUT YOU ARE NOT DONE JUST YET.

SCROLL DOWN THE FRAME AND ADD ANY RELEVANT INFORMATION, SUCH AS A DESCRIPTION, A CAPTION AND MAKE SURE THE TITLE IS WHAT YOU WANT IT TO SAY.

NOW ON THE LINE THAT SAYS LINK URL CLICK FILE URL AND THIS WILL LOAD A PRESET URL THAT WILL BE USED FOR THE DOWNLOAD PAGE AFTER.

NOW YOU SELECT INSERT INTO POST. Then you want to copy the url that appears in the publication line above the upload publication. The url the blog built should be there.

NEXT YOU NEED TO CREATE A DOWNLOAD PAGE. Click on pages and click add new.

THIS IS WHERE THINGS TEND TO GET A LITTLE COMPLICATED. Go to Google and find a download now button, they are everywhere. Upload that picture to your media library.

ON THE NEW PAGE YOU NEED TO MAKE IT A CONFIRMATION PAGE FROM YOUR AUTO RESPONDER CAMPAIGN. If I can find a related article on auto responder set ups I will link it in the related articles below. If not I will create a how to page on that as well.

SO THE PAGE IS VERY BASIC. Headline says something like, Thank you for confirming your subscription,access your download below.

HERE YOU WILL WANT TO CLICK ON ADD MEDIA, TOP LEFT CORNER OF THE POST BOX. This will take you to your media library where you can find your download now button, click on that and set it up for your page. This will employ some ALT text, and then the URL you copied from the publication page and set it up to link to a custom URL, and then put that URL into the link to box. Make it center justification and then click insert into post

IF YOU HAVE DONE THIS RIGHT YOUR PAGE SHOULD BE NEAT AND CLEAN WITH IT ALL CENTER JUSTIFICATION.

THE SECRET TO MAKE SURE THAT NO ONE JUST HAPPENS ON THIS PAGE, AS YOU CAN\'T MAKE IT PRIVATE OTHERWISE NO ONE CAN ACCESS IT IS TO MAKE IT PASSWORD PROTECTED.

MAKE THE PASSWORD SIMPLE AND THEN INCLUDE THE PASSWORD IN THE EMAIL THAT GETS SENT TO HAVE THEM CONFIRM THE SUBSCRIPTION. In your publish options you will find the default to visibility is public. Click the link that says change and change it to password protected.
